My Religious Studies teacher says that on Monday we're making masks to represent our soul...?

I don't believe in souls.

If she flunks me for not participating, is that persecution? My Religious Studies teacher says that on Monday we're making masks to represent our soul...?
just think of a soul as your inner self. Like your personality or somethingMy Religious Studies teacher says that on Monday we're making masks to represent our soul...?
Yes, I believe it should be considered persecution.

I love the first person's answer...why would you take a religion course if you're not religious. Following her logic, you shouldn't take a math course if you're not a mathematician, you shouldn't take a computer course if you're not a programmer, a writing course if you're not a writer, etc...

No wonder Christians seem so uneducated.

I say there are two ways to go about this. You could tell your teacher that you don't believe in souls and so feel you can't do the project and see what happens, or instead, perhaps make a mask that to you represents something else, like your personality. Your teacher really won't know the difference and you can still have some fun with the project.
No it isn't persecution because your taking a class about religion. When I took a similar class I had to do things in regards to eastern religions that I didn't believe in. Guess what, you do it.

It's like people who complain that school teaches evolution. Im like, your at a public school, you KNOW this was going to happen.
I'd probably ask for an alternate project, or make a blank mask with ';I don't believe in souls'; written on it. I did, however, often get in trouble in school for being a overly sarcastic. :-D
Just do something that represents who you are, maybe a mask covered in clippings from scientific magazines or texts if you're into science rather than souls.
Your soul is your mind, your will %26amp; your emotions. You deny these exist? It has nothing to do with religion.

If you deny they exist, then what are you reasoning with?
The Greek word for ';mask'; is ';persona'; ....from which we get ';personality';.

We tend to hide ourselves with a carefully developed persona/mask.
Just walk in without one, and say you don't need a silly mask to enjoy your life.

Thats some creative thinking.
Ask for an alternative project or take it hypothetically and try it.
Just make yours black. She'll understand.

Or don't do anything to it. It'll put across the same idea.
Ok so make a mask with no features on it.
Just tell her that your mask is non existent like souls.

The Bard~
Make a blank mask.
turn in a blank piece of paper
is this a required course?

If not why did you take it sister?
Then buy a Nixon mask and see what people say. You have the opportunity to have a looooot of fun with this.
No, why would you be in a religious study if you're not relgious?
