According to Fred Espenak's web site:
';Welders' goggles or the filters for welder's goggles with a rating of 14 or higher are safe to use for looking directly at the Sun.';
Sources for safe solar filters specifically made for viewing eclipses can be found at http://www.mreclipse.com/Totality2/TotalityApC.html#Solar_Filters
Other types of aluminized plastic may or may not be safe, and you won't discover that they are not until it is too late. It is best to use filter material specifically made for viewing the sun.
http://www.mreclipse.com is one of the best resources for solar eclipses.Is it safe to watch a solar eclipse while wearing a welding mask?
A welding mask is the safest possible thing for observing the Sun. Sunglasses as a good way to go blind, as they are usually not dark enough and also don't block enough UV. In addition to welder's glasses, a mask made of mylar will work (but check to avoid holaes), or five or six thicknesses of dark black and white negatives (NOT color negatives).
BTW, during totality you need no protection. But only during totality.
Yes that would work.
yes most definately you can watch a solar eclipse through a decent pair of sunglasses and welding masks are designed to deal with high intensity light.
other than lookin a bit strange youd be fine.
Only if it's a number 14 or higher glass in it.
Think about what you're risking and do your research accordingly. A total solar eclipse is one of nature's grandest spectacles, and watching the Moon creep across the Sun is part of the fun. Get it right and you see an amazing thing. Get it wrong and you won't see anything. Ever again.
youd look better off with sunglasses dude believe me.
Well,guess so.
